As part of the research and planning process for improving Bradley University’s library experience, I created a detailed user persona to help me better understand the behaviors of students. The persona I created represents a typical student that has to balance academics, social life, and personal hobbies. The reason behind making the persona was to help make realistic and reasonable design decisions that would reflect what the average user would want rather than just guessing.
I created the persona using Figma. I focused on making sure that the content was meaningful and was easy to understand. The persona touches over key topics such as, goals, motivations, skills, pain points, even touching on personality traits. I also kept things like hierarchy, spacing, and color consistency in mind when designing this.
A major decision was determining what details were most important and should be included. I had to make sure to balance the commons and specifics, so that the persona would feel realistic without being too limited to one specific type of student.
The final persona proved helpful in guiding the creative direction of the overall project. It helped me stay focused and made me come up with user based solutions. By thinking about real frustrations and motives of a college student, the persona helped me come up with more practical design solutions for the library.
I can help bring thoughtful and user centered design to your team.
